Summary

Installation Date:  March 2011
Fuel Type: Wood Pellet
Heat Output: 150 kW

Background

Fawood Avenue is part of the extensive redevelopment of the Stonebridge area in North London. The building provides a mixture of 45 single, two, three, four and five bedroom units with a significant number of larger family units. In addition, there are 21 non-rental units provided on the Shared Ownership block over 5 floors.

Main contractor Bouygues UK appointed Asgard Biomass to design and install a high efficiency communal biomass system comprising an Evoworld 150kW as the lead boiler and a purpose designed 12 Tonne capacity wood pellet store, both set into the confined basement area of the building.

Solution

The pellet store is located adjacent to the main basement plant room and is approximately 4m x 4m. Located inside the store on the floor are 2 Evoworld pellet collectors. The floor of the store forms effectively a double ā€˜V’ with each collector sitting in a ā€˜V’. A series of steel frames supports the floor panels. A pair of flexible screws pass out of the store and feed the boiler via a cell wheel transfer unit.

Access into the pellet store is gained via an inward opening steel door with an inset perspex vision panel.

The installed Evoworld P150 boiler is designed to deliver efficiencies of 94% and is expected to significantly reduce energy costs and carbon emissions in line with Brent Council's commitment to sustainable use of energy in buildings. The boiler is also recommended under Section 21 of the CAA for Exemption from Section 20 of the CAA as suitable for use in Smoke Control Areas.
