Summary
St James Primary is a thriving voluntary-aided primary school in the village of Elstead, Surrey. Asgard Biomass, as a provider of innovative and bespoke solutions to the biomass industry was asked to design and engineer a pellet store to integrate with a new high efficiency biomass wood pellet boiler at the school.
The pellet silo and biomass boiler was part of a £46,000 scheme, jointly funded by EDF Energy’s Green Fund and the Low Carbon Buildings Programme, to enable the school to be heated sustainably by wood pellets, sourced from local sawmills and heathland restoration projects.
Expert engineering was required to attach this purpose designed five tonne capacity silo and feeding mechanism to the wall structure of the 7 square metre loft above the school boiler room. This innovative solution involved the repositioning of a large water storage tank and its pipe work to ensure easy access and efficient use of the limited space available.
