Hardwicks Way
BackgroundThis business centre is situated in a prestigious area of south west London. The commercial property is a defining feature of the sky line and is the latest development in a variety of schemes planned for the area. The center features offices to rent, retail spaces and over 100 2 bedroom flats. The developers were keen to use biomass heating as a way to provide at least 10% of the energy used at the site from a renewable source. Asgard Biomass were approached to provide a suitable installation. SolutionA basement area, adjacent to the main plant room, was allocated by the developer as the pellet store site. This area features both a sloping ceiling and non parallel side walls requiring the design of a bespoke pellet store to suit this unusual configuration. A slightly raised floor was constructed featuring 2 No. rotating sweeping discharge devices. These sweep pellet into a transport screw that is located in a trough in the floor. The screw exits through the wall of the pellet store where it discharges pellet into a transfer box and a flexible screw connected to the transfer box augers the pellet approximately 6 meters to the back of the 145 kW boiler. A pair of pellet feed pipes run vertically from the delivery area down through a hole in the pellet store ceiling.
Installed Boiler TypeKSM Multistoker 145XL A KSM 145XL boiler acts as the lead boiler with 3 No. 1MW gas condensing boilers providing back up. The pellet store has capacity for approximately 16 Tonnes of wood pellet.
